MN DEC Members - Awards

MN DEC presents two annual awards:  the MNDEC Practitioner of the Year Award and MNDEC Leader of the Year Award Any early childhood professional (ECSE, ECFE, Head Start or preschool teacher or administrator, childcare provider/director or other professional) may be

 

nominated by MNDEC members. 

These honorees have made a difference in the lives of young children with special needs and their families and/or in the lives of their colleagues by performing their job in an exemplary manner; by making significant contributions or providing leadership that has improved or will improve the lives of young children with special needs and their families; by demonstrating, through their work, evidence of knowledge and skills consistent with recommended practices in the field; and, by demonstrating high ethical and professional standards. 


The Rose C. Engel Award for Excellence in Professional Practice 

This award is given to a DEC member who is a practicing professional and whose primary role is serving young children with special needs and their families. This special award is given to honor Rose Engel, DEC’s first President, whose leadership has shaped DEC as an organization.  Nominees are expected to meet the high standards of professional practice set by Rose Engel.

Past MNDEC Award Recipients:
 

Lori Ptak, 2015 MNDEC Practitioner of the Year Award Recipient: 

Lori Ptak, Speech/Language Pathologist with Roseville Area Schools, was awarded the 2015 MNDEC Practitioner of the Year Award. Lori holds licenses in both speech/language pathology and early childhood special education. Lori has been a partner in education with her team and instrumental in designing instructional space using the Zones of Regulation and Routines Based Intervention in the classroom setting.  Lori’s contributions and leadership in the Roseville ECSE program were acknowledged. 

Donna Marget, 2015 MNDEC Leader of the Year Award Recipient:

Donna Marget, Special Services Coordinator with Wayzata Public Schools, was awarded the 2015 MNDEC Leader of the Year Award.  Many leadership strengths were highlighted in her nomination.  Donna’s strong and supportive leadership style was an asset to the Wayzata ECSE program.   She was commended for being a champion for children and families in the area of early childhood mental health.  Donna’s positive collaboration with others and infectious sense of humor had a lasting impact on her team.
