Greetings!

MN CEC-DEC Spring Practitioners Conference was held March 10-11 in Bloomington, MN at the Minneapolis Airport Marriott. The theme was:

2016 Action Research Initiative Grants
The Minnesota Division for Early Childhood of the Council for Exceptional Children (DEC)  has agreed to devote the proceeds from the silent auction, held annually at the Division’s fall conference to fund practitioners who wish to engage in action research efforts within their district programs.  Two grants of $500 each are available.  Applicants may be individual practitioners or teams of practitioners and be currently working in a program that serves young children with disabilities and their families.  Each application must include at least one applicant who is a current member of DEC.  Action-research grant recipients must be willing to write a short article describing the process and results for publication on Minnesota DEC’s website.   Typical components of Action Research:

1.  Identifying the problem to be solved
2.  Diagnosing the causes of the problem
3.  Formulating an action hypothesis
4.  Designing and implementing an action plan 5. Simple procedures for analysis of the resulting data or evidence

Please complete all sections of the application and return by May 15, 2016 to MNDEC President Judy Beaton at jbeaton@edenpr.org. Click on APPLICATION to download.

Practitioner Award and Leadership Award Nomination Forms now available

MN DEC is proud of the high quality of services provided to young children and their families and recognizes this is the result of the talented and caring professionals working with children, families, and programs throughout the state. MN DEC wants to acknowledge these professionals who make significant differences in the lives of the children, families, and programs. Two awards are presented annually: the Practitioner Award is for the outstanding professional working directly with children and families; and the Leadership Award is to acknowledge the professional who provides exemplary leadership in the field at the local or state level.

MN DEC encourages nominations of any early childhood professional: ECSE, ECFE, Head Start or preschool teacher or administrator, childcare provider/director or other professional, who has made a difference in the lives of young children with special needs and their families and/or in the lives of their colleagues by:
• Performed their job in an exemplary manner
• Have made significant contributions or provided leadership that has improved or will improve the lives of young children with special needs and their families
• Demonstrated through their work evidence of knowledge and skills consistent with recommended practices in the field
• Demonstrated high ethical and professional standards.
